Welcome to pilates at the coast

Welcome to Pilates At The Coast where we pride ourselves on a warm, relaxed and friendly approach to getting fit and having fun. Whether you’re an enthusiastic beginner or one of the 11 million people already practicing Pilates worldwide, we can offer you the perfect platform to progress.

Many of our clients have been visiting Pilates At The Coast for several years. They benefit from expert teaching and a calming environment. We like to work hard but the social side of Pilates At The Coast is what makes our classes so popular.

With more than 20 group classes per week we work with clients of all abilities at times to suit them. One-to-one sessions are available and we are happy to find a time that’s right for you.

We use two studios with a maximum number of 10 clients per class. There’s plenty of room to perfect your Pilates technique and benefit from specialist supervision.

Pilates At The Coast is based in the North Tyneside village of Monkseaton and we work with clients from across the North East. Just a 10-minute drive from Tynemouth or a 20-minute drive from Newcastle, we’re within easy reach and benefit from free on-street parking. Monkseaton Metro station is a five-minute walk from the studio.

Pilates At The Coast is a fully equipped Pilates centre at the heart of Monkseaton village. 
The centre benefits from a variety of floor equipment and boasts three state-of-the-art Reformer machines. Two studio spaces and a separate Reformer room make for the perfect Pilates experience.

Meet the Teachers

Hazel Hodgkiss

"Pilates should be for everyone - its benefits can improve the health and well-being of people of all ages. Pilates At The Coast is a fun place to work and an even better place to learn! As a team we boast a huge range of expertise - we help our clients and we help each other."

Hazel is the founder of Pilates at the Coast and is a qualified Body Control Pilates instructor. She has been teaching Pilates for more than 10 years and she welcomes 160-plus clients to the studio every week. Heading up Pilates At The Coast since 2010, she specialises in mat work, reformer work, work with older people and those diagnosed with osteoporosis.

ELLIE FLETCHER ROBBINS

"Pilates is the very best exercise routine to make me look well and feel good. I never get bored with it because it also challenges the brain. Pilates at the Coast is a place where we all work together to give the very best Pilates experience to everyone who walks through the door."

Ellie has been a fully qualified Body Control Pilates instructor since 2008 and has spent the last four-and-a-half years working with Hazel and the Pilates at the Coast team.

EVONNE SMITH

“It’s great to work with those muscles that we often forget about and I love watching people improve week on week. The support the team here give each other is second to none and it creates a great atmosphere within the centre.”

Evonne gained a BSc Hons degree in physiotherapy and is accredited with the Australian Physiotherapy and Pilates Institute (APPI) – specialising in matwork, modified Pilates, small equipment and antenatal/post-natal support. She’s been a popular member of the Pilates At The Coast team for a year now.

EMMA LAYBOURNE

“I am passionate about fitness and love how Pilates can improve our clients’ health. It is a form of exercise open to everyone and the benefits I hear and see from clients really do make it such a rewarding place to work. I would urge everyone to try it. There is a very friendly atmosphere in the studio which also makes it a great place to exercise.”

Emma qualified in 2017 with her Level 3 diploma in mat Pilates.

ALI SUSSEX

“Pilates is a ‘tried and tested’ safe method of exercising that really does work to improve strength, tone, flexibility and posture. The ‘mind-body’ focus of Pilates exercise enhances a feeling of wellbeing too. It is suitable for all ages and all bodies!”

Ali has worked for many years as a Physiotherapist and qualified in mat work and equipment Pilates through the Pilates Foundation in Somerset. After living in the South West she has now returned to the North East and is really enjoying getting to know new colleagues and clients at the Studio.
